Q. How often should I see a dentist?
A. We recommend visiting us at least twice a year for a check-up and professional cleaning.
Q. What should I expect during my appointment?
A. One of our staff members will compile your medical and dental history during your first visit. We will then examine your teeth and gums, screen you for oral cancer, take X-rays of your teeth as needed. We have all digital x-rays and do what we can do reduce radiation exposure. We will also use a leaded apron with a thyroid collar for added protection. If needed, molds (impressions) and intra-oral photos may be taken of your teeth as well. After we review your dental profile, we will discuss a diagnosis with you. If treatment such as a root canal (endodontics), braces (orthodontics) or oral surgery is needed, we will plan to treat you in our office or refer you to a specialist. We will discuss your options for treatment and fee payment and help you determine the best plan to fit your needs. If you have specific questions about your mercury fillings, please advise one of our front desk staff members when you call for your appointment.
During regular follow-up visits, we will examine your teeth and gums, screen you for oral cancer, clean your teeth and make plans for treatment, as needed. We will discuss any pain or problems you may be experiencing and answer any questions you may have.
Q. What does “painless dentistry” mean?
A. Painless dentistry is a means of ensuring your total experience in our office is as stress-free and pain-free as possible. Our doctors are experts at providing safe and comfortable care. We will always treat you how we would want to be treated ourselves.
Q. What if I have an emergency?
A. Please call our office as soon if you think you have a dental emergency. We will be glad to work you in to our schedule. After hours, over the weekend and during holidays, please call our office for the doctor’s emergency contact number.
Q. What do I do if I have questions about the mercury fillings in my mouth?
A.Dr. Armand DeFelice specializes in diagnosing and treating mercury toxicity, safe removal of amalgam fillings and detoxification. Please call to schedule an initial consultation. Please also visit our Holistic Center on this website for more information.
Q. Do you offer implants?
A. Yes! We currently offer pure titanium implants placed by one of our trusted colleagues. When placed properly, the bone and gums heals completely around the implant, forms a biological and biocompatible seal, and functions perfectly for our patients. In other words, they integrate beautifully with the body. We are currently studying the possibility of using zirconia or metal free implants.
Q. Do you offer implants under dentures?
A. Absolutely! With this treatment, your new teeth will look and feel great. Your teeth are securely fixed on top of at least 2 implants. The denture will be removable for cleaning and oral hygiene but is quite different from a conventional denture because it provides retention in the mouth, functioning more like natural teeth.
Q. If periodontal disease is such a problem, why doesn't it hurt?
A. Good question! Periodontal problems can become quite serious and extremely advanced with no pain at all. It is vital to pay attention to the warning signs- bleeding when brushing and flossing, swollen gums, receeding gums, teeth changing position, bad odor, or pus around the gums. Scheduling routine cleanings and exams will help you maintain good health.
