Our holistic philosophy is one of “wholeness"
How are we different from regular dentists?
Holistic Dentistry is based on the concept that the mouth and teeth are an integrated part of the body. It is a paradigm, or a philosophy within dentistry, and not a specialty. The term “holistic” can include a very wide variety of practice philosophies and treatments in dentistry. Our holistic philosophy is one of “wholeness.” This means to offer comprehensive dental care that integrates traditional, cosmetic and alternative approaches. Your smile plays a major role in how you perceive yourself, as well as how others perceive you, and should complement or even enhance your personality. Oral health is critical to your well-being, a fundamental part of your general health.
Holistic dentistry supports your choice to live a healthier, more natural, more beautiful and less toxic life. We bridge the gap between conventional dentistry and natural healing modalities. We promote health and well-being in many ways, including:
- Educating our patients
- Giving nutritional recommendations
- Helping our patients decrease inflammation and bacteria burden in the mouth
- Restoring function to decayed, missing or broken teeth
- Creating beautiful smiles that radiate to those around you.
We recognize that the mouth is connected to the body and that it cannot be viewed as an independent system. It is a reflection of the body’s overall health and much can be done to impact it, both positively and negatively. Like many dentists, we look to see if the foundation is solid. We ask questions like:
- Are your gums bleeding and swollen? Is this a reflection of poor nutrition or poor oral hygiene?
- Are there signs of infection or disease?
- Are the teeth moving or drifting?
- Do you get frequent headaches?
- Are there signs of oral cancer?
- Are you lips thinning?
- Do the corners of your mouth turn down?
- Do you clench and grind your teeth at night?
- Are your teeth getting darker with age?
Holistic dentists also do fillings, take x-rays and use anesthesia to numb your mouth. However, we only use mercury free-white fillings. More importantly, we take extra precautions when removing your old silver fillings to minimize your exposure to mercury vapor. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal implicated in many degenerative diseases. We try to minimize your exposure to toxic substances in every area of our work. Therefore, we use digital computer generated x-rays which reduces your exposure to radiation by 90%.
We don’t advocate the indiscriminate use of fluoride in adults and children since it is a known poison. We have self-contained distilled water in our office to minimize bacterial contamination. We research to find the safest and most biocompatible materials available for dental work. We only use the highest quality and pure materials available to us. Our goal is to provide thorough dental care, using biocompatible materials, minimally invasive procedures, and make recommendations intended to prevent future disease, discomfort and damage.
We will work with you to create a plan best suited to your individual needs. We have proven competence in all areas of dentistry. We will choose a plan that will give you the healthiest and most beautiful smile.
