Root Canals

We don’t want patients to think of root canals as oral surgery because that makes it sound a lot worse than it actually is. In fact, it’s usually the pain of an infected tooth left untreated that’s much worse than the root canal itself. Today, root canals are usually no more uncomfortable than having a cavity filled.

Generally, holistic dentists don’t condone traditional root canal treatment because of the toxic chemicals used in the sterilization and filling material. However, we do recognize the benefits of root canal treatment in stopping internal decay and preventing the infection from reaching the pulp where the nerves are located. Root canals can eliminate pain and sensitivity, prevent the need for extraction, and save teeth. That’s why your Spokane holistic dentist offers biocompatible materials and advanced instrumentation that provide the same results without the toxic chemicals.

Do I need a root canal?

You may need a root canal if you have:

  • Deep decay
  • Traumatic injury (fractures or cracks)
  • Infection in the pulp or nerve
  • Irritation from previous dental work (deep fillings)
  • Excessive pain and sensitivity
